Merger between Banca del Gottardo and BSI (Generali Group) completed

The operation sees the creation of a major Swiss Private Banking group, with assets under management totalling CHF 94 billion and shareholders' equity of around CHF 2.3 billion.
Today saw the merger of Banca del Gottardo into BSI (Generali Group), according to the schedule and plans set out at the time of the acquisition in November 2007. From today, all activities previously carried out by Banca del Gottardo will now be carried out under the BSI brand name.
The merger has created one of the leading Swiss groups specialising in Private Banking, with assets under management of CHF 94 billion, 2,000 employees, headquartered in Lugano, Switzerland, and operations in the main markets of Switzerland (including Zurich and Geneva), Europe (Paris, Madrid, Montecarlo and Luxembourg) and outside Europe (Asia and Latin America). The new bank also has shareholders' equity of around CHF 2.3 billion.
The acquisition of Banca del Gottardo - after those of Ifabanque SA in Paris in 2005 and Banca Unione di Credito in Lugano in 2006 - aims to create a banking group of international standing in the professional asset management sector, with strong roots in Switzerland and Europe and operations in the most economically dynamic regions of the world.
The new Board of Directors of BSI AG consists of Giorgio Ghiringhelli (Chairman), Giovanni Perissinotto (Vice-chairman), Antoine Bernheim, Luigi Butti, Tiziano Moccetti, Nicola Mordasini and Renzo Respini.
The new Executive Board comprises Alfredo Gysi (Chairman), Beat Ammann, Gianni Aprile, Roberto Botta, Eugenio Brianti, Stefano Coduri, Agostino Ferrazzini, Christian Ferry, Stefano Loffredi, François Noverraz, Vincenzo Piantedosi, Franco Polloni and Rajiv Pradhan.
BSI AG was founded in Lugano, Switzerland, in 1873, and is the oldest bank in the canton of Ticino. Since 1998 it has been 100%-controlled by the Generali Insurance Group. BSI specialises in asset management and related services for private and institutional clients, and is present in the major financial markets worldwide.
