BKW Italia S.p.A.
Inauguration of Tamarete gas-fired power plant
Bern (ots)
BKW Inc. and its Italian partners, the Hera Group and Zecca S.r.l., today inaugurated the Tamerete Energy S.r.l. gas-fired power plant in Ortona in the presence of official representatives as well as regional and national politicians. The 104-MW gas-fired power plant is designed to deliver supplies at peak-load times and will make an important contribution to electricity supplies in the region.
At the end of 2008, BKW acquired a 48% stake in the Tamarete Energie S.r.l. power plant company in Ortona, in Italy's Abruzzo region. The previous owner, Odoardo Zecca, retained a 20% interest while the remaining 32% share was purchased by the Hera Group of Bologna. After around four and a half years of permit procedure and construction, in the course of which the capacity of the existing facility was increased from 5.5 MW to 104 MW and the efficiency yield was upgraded to state-of-the-art, the power plant has now been inaugurated. For BKW the investment cost was around CHF 50 million. The plant has a production of up to 500 GWh per year.
BKW has been active on the Italian market for the past 13 years, and since 2006 has operated under the umbrella company BKW Italia S.p.A which, besides hydroelectric power plants in Lombardy and the Aosta Valley with a collective capacity of 50 MW, also has a 25% stake in the gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Livorno Ferraris, Piedmont (BKW share: 200 MW) and operates various wind farms with a collective installed capacity of 224 MW.
