BKW
2013 Sustainability report
Stepping up dialogue with stakeholder groups
Bern (ots)
In 2013, BKW's sustainability management focused on intensifying dialogue with stakeholder groups. Sustainability is a crucial success factor for BKW in its journey from electricity producer to comprehensive energy service provider.
Sustainability is not only about environmental aspects, it also has an economic and social dimension. In times of declining prices in the electricity markets, efficient management of economic resources is more important than ever. BKW took important steps in 2013, for example in supplier management, streamlining its organisation and optimising internal processes. BKW is also conscious that especially in periods of change, maintaining dialogue with stakeholder groups is of particular importance. It therefore launched a social dialogue campaign to present and reflect its Group strategy "BKW 2030". In addition, dialogue was also stepped up with employees, advisory groups, representatives of environmental associations, companies and investors.
The year 2013 was also shaped by BKW's decision to operate the Mühleberg nuclear power plant (KKM) until 2019, after which it will be taken off the grid. The sustainability report details how the three sustainability dimensions of environment, economy and society will continue to play an important role during operation and decommissioning of the plant.
The reporting is carried out in line with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). GRI reporting is an internationally recognised standard allowing global comparisons of companies in the area of sustainability. The report meets the requirements of application level B+. www.bkw.ch/sustainability
