Russian Space Landing at Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt/Main, Germany (ots)

A Russian space landing occurred
at Frankfurt Airport on Saturday, April 6, when the gigantic Antonov
AN124-100 aircraft touched down with special cargo on board -
including the 2.5-metric-ton MIR space station - for the "Russia in
Space" exhibition being hosted at FRA over the next 11 weeks. Fraport
AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide is presenting the European
premier of this extraordinary exhibition of spaceships and other
items which document Russia's 45-year space history: from the launch
of Sputnik (the world's first Earth satellite) on October 4, 1957, up
to 2002. The official opening on April 12 will commemorate the
anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first manned space flight. A big
attraction for passengers and the general public, the exhibition will
run daily (9:00 to 19:00) from April 13 through June 30 at the
Airport Gallery 1, on the mezzanine in Departures Hall B of Terminal
1.
This cosmic collection from Moscow's Memorial Museum of
Cosmonautics features the full-size MIR space station that was used
for cosmonaut training. The MIR operated for a record 15 years around
our Earth. Other items being exhibited include the original Lunochod
2 moon vehicle, plus other originals and models of space hardware
from the famous Sputnik, Sojus, Wostock and Buran projects. You can
also see space suits and devices, as well as various items from daily
life in space. "Russia in Space" is presented by Fraport AG in
cooperation with East Art & Culture Promotion GmbH of Bad Homburg
(near Frankfurt). The official opening on Friday, April 12, will
include senior representatives from the Russian Federation's Ministry
of Culture and Fraport AG's Executive Board.
Visitors to the "Russia in Space" exhibition will have to pay a
modest admission fee. For adults from 16 years, admission costs EUR
11 per person. Children 6 to 15 years, students, or people with
disabilities pay EUR 6. Special rates are available for families and
groups. For example, a EUR 25 family ticket covers the admission for
two adults and up to three children (up 15 years). For more details
