As part of its strategy programme, Valora is making structural adjustments to its operations in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and adapting them to evolving market conditions.
- Melisa SA´s press wholesaling operations, hitherto based in the Ticino, will be centralised at the Valora group´s Muttenz facility. - The Melisa bookshops in Lugano, Locarno and Grancia will be maintained. In line with the group´s new organisational structure, these outlets will be incorporated into the Valora Retail division. - The logistics functions at the Bedano railhead will be maintained and will be incorporated into Valora Logistics. - Melisa´s book wholesaling operations will be continued for the foreseeable future. The scope for co-operative ventures in this area is being investigated.
While Valora intends to maintain its operations in the Ticino, a number of organisational and staffing changes are essential. The number of jobs at the Bedano facility will be reduced by 22 by the end of October 2009. Every effort will be made to ease the burden on those affected, all of whom will receive individual advice and support.
These measures are aimed at maintaining Valora Media´s competitiveness and strengthening its position in the increasingly challenging press and book markets.
