IVU wins major order in Chile
After a year-long international competition, the contract for Transantiago´s new fleet management system has been awarded to IVU Traffic Technologies AG. In 2007, Transantiago was introduced as an integrated system for public transport in Santiago de Chile with the aim of improving traffic flows in this metropolis of 6 million inhabitants. Approximately 3 million people per day travel on a total of 6,400 buses in the city.
In cooperation with its Chilean partner, IVU will equip all buses with the latest information technology, supplying in particular German-made on-board computers using IVU software. Navigation and radio technology will also be installed as part of the project, along with passenger information displays. IVU software will also be used for the control centre operations of eleven bus operators.
This project is expected to have a lifetime of two and a half years. Its tasks will include equipping all the vehicles, installing the control centres and training almost 20,000 drivers.
This order, representing a total sales volume of more than EUR 30 M, is the biggest IVU has ever received.
