Indus Launches Next-Generation Energy Delivery Solution
Atlanta, GA (ots)
End-To-End System Facilitates Improvements In Transmission And Distribution Networks While Maintaining Operational Excellence In Existing Infrastructure
Indus International Inc. (NASDAQ: IINT), the leading global supplier of enterprise asset management (EAM) software and services(1), today announced its next-generation Indus Energy Delivery Solution, a collaborative, end-to-end EAM offering designed to help energy delivery companies meet the growing demands of restructuring while maintaining system reliability, lowering operations and maintenance costs, improving customer service levels and increasing the cost-effective use of assets.
According to industry experts such as the Electric Power Research Institute(2), more than $45 billion is lost annually due to outages and another $6.7 billion to power quality disturbances as energy companies hurriedly expand their transmission networks to catch up with ever-increasing demand. As a result, preparing and delivering on planned improvements while maintaining the existing infrastructure are the highest priorities for energy companies today.
"Success for our customers in this new energy delivery market requires focused operational strategies that reduce the cost of energy delivery, while maintaining system reliability and improving the productivity of the workforce," said Terry Maxey, VP of PassPort product management at Indus International. "These are exactly the strategies that the Indus Energy Delivery Solution was created to support. The solution effectively integrates third-party applications, incorporates advanced workflow features and includes mobile computing capabilities. Accordingly, it facilitates collaboration among our customers' workforce and their vendors, business partners and customers. This enables Indus customers to design and construct networks intelligently and maintain them effectively."
The Indus Energy Delivery Solution is comprised of Indus' industry-leading PassPort application tightly complemented by diverse third-party applications and Indus Vision products. It integrates offerings from industry partners for GIS and design, CIS/CRM, OMS, reliability and predictive maintenance, financials and asset lifecycle management. PassPort's flexible open architecture leverages powerful technologies, such as Internet portals, open system exchange, mobile computing and eCommerce to provide a complete end-to-end solution. The resulting comprehensive Indus Energy Delivery Solution enables customers to streamline processes, achieve operational excellence and facilitate continuous improvement in their existing infrastructure while expanding their transmission and distribution networks.
"Putting together all the pieces of the puzzle for this complex solution was a major task," said Indus Chairman and CEO Tom Madison. "Fortunately, Indus has leading worldwide market share in utilities and more than 25 years of experience in delivering successful solutions, so we understand what energy companies need. In addition, our customers and special interest groups contributed significant input to the overall design of the solution. The unparalleled capabilities of this solution demonstrate the expertise that has enabled Indus to garner three times more market share than our nearest competitor in the utilities industry."
The Indus Energy Delivery Solution supports energy companies in achieving operational excellence by enabling them to:
- Design networks efficiently. Integration with CRM/CIS systems and leading design and GIS tools enables users to gather customer requirements and develop designs, creating versions with cost estimates for material, labor and property units.
- Construct resourcefully. End-to-end capabilities facilitate creating work packages and cost estimates with resources, materials and schedules; scheduling internal and external resources; obtaining materials and updating and monitoring performance -- all from within the Energy Delivery Solution.
- Maintain effectively. The Indus Energy Solution improves responsiveness and productivity with scheduling, resource optimization and dispatch tools that reduce travel time, increase wrench time and ensure field maintenance crews are empowered with the tools required to get the job done.
Achieving Operational Excellence in Energy Delivery
The Indus Energy Delivery solution is already making an impact in some customers' businesses, including leading energy companies such as Idaho Power and Omaha Public Power District (OPPD).
"We are really excited about the next generation of the Indus Energy Delivery Solution, and we believe this will allow us to further leverage the power of PassPort across the Idaho Power enterprise," said Colleen Ramsey, Application Manager of Idaho Power. "The ability to integrate with other applications key to our business will support our strategic goals to achieve excellence in the energy business. Idaho Power has been an Indus customer since 1995, and we use PassPort in both our generation and energy delivery business units."
Omaha Public Power District is a winner of the J.D. Power and Associates award as one of the top-rated utilities in terms of customer satisfaction in its class for the second straight year in 2002. Steve Schmitz, Supervisor of Enterprise Projects at OPPD, said, "Indus is a key strategic partner of ours, and we depend on their solutions to facilitate operational excellence at OPPD. Since our go-live of Release 9 of PassPort, we are realizing the power of the solution and welcome the continuing innovation and new functionality that Indus is providing. Our goal is to provide the best value to our energy customers, and we need to take full advantage of our Indus EAM solution to achieve that goal."
