Hyundai Chooses Valeo's Starter-Alternator
Paris (ots/PRNewswire)
Valeo's belt-driven "Start-Stop" system is featured on the Hyundai concept car ECO Getz 1.1 CRDi, a Super Low Emission Vehicle unveiled to the public at the Paris Autoshow. It is the first time that this innovation is officially presented on a diesel engine. The system, called ISG or "Idle Stop & Go" by Hyundai Motor Co., stops and restarts the engine instantly and silently upon driver solicitation.
Valeo's starter-alternator on a diesel engine: a world first
This system was specifically designed by Valeo and Hyundai for this new generation diesel engine. It helps to reduce both urban noise and air pollution. It also improves driving comfort and reduces fuel consumption.
When the vehicle stops at a red light or in a traffic jam, with this technology, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions are reduced to zero. The engine is restarted silently and automatically as soon as the driver engages a gear.
Making driving peaceful, economical, and environmentally friendly
There are many benefits for the consumer: when the vehicle comes to a standstill and the engine is cut off, there is no fuel consumption and all noise and pollutant emissions are eliminated.
In built-up areas, vehicles are at standstill for nearly 30% of driving time: in these conditions, this system can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 10%.
