MetaSolv Extends Leadership Position in Service Activation With the Introduction of Activation 5

This new release raises the bar in multi-service activation and provides a unique path forward for innovative service providers through the integration of MetaSolv's complementary industry-leading activation capabilities: MetaSolv ASAP -- a comprehensive, multi-technology, multi-vendor activation platform, and MetaSolv IP Service Activator -- an expert activation engine uniquely focused on delivering QoS enabled, IP-based services.

Activation 5 manages the complete activation process, providing necessary transactional integrity across the entire end-to-end activation process. Such activation control also enables the orchestration of existing activation engines as part of the activation process, thereby allowing service providers to leverage existing activation investments whenever possible. This approach, already applied in multiple engagements, insulates and abstracts the activation processing details for multi-service requests from upstream systems and simplifies the overall OSS architecture.
In conjunction with Activation 5, MetaSolv is also releasing Service Studio, a powerful graphical tool that enables the rapid design and deployment of services. Developed in cooperation with key customers, Service Studio puts the service modeling and assembly in the hands of service experts without requiring detailed IT skills, thus empowering the user to easily and rapidly assemble new and innovative services and service bundles.
MetaSolv's Activation 5 also sets a new industry benchmark for Tier 1 performance and scalability. Working our large, tier one, global service provider customers, MetaSolv has modeled and conducted realistic product benchmarks demonstrating a throughput rate of 100 orders/second with each order containing an average of seven independent network updates. This translates to an activation capability of over 8.5 million orders per day, far exceeding the requirements of even the largest, most demanding operator environment.
Additional functionality in Activation 5 includes:
- Single, consistent, upstream integration OSS/J interface for multi-service activation requests across all technologies, as well as enhanced support for rapid upstream integration using the new Service Request Translator (SRT) component. This enables operators to simplify OSS integration and reduce cost of ownership.
- Continued build out of a productized, supported and enhanced cartridge library with strong emphasis on key next generation services including VoIP, Video (IP-TV), IP-VPN, Mobile and Broadband. With these extensions, MetaSolv currently has over 110 contemporary, multi-vendor productized network element cartridges available to facilitate reduced deployment time, faster time to market, and lower cost of ownership.
- Extended configuration management capability through the introduction of the IP Configuration Template Module (CTM), an easy-to-use XML template-based configuration tool, which provides quick and easy extensibility and supports the application of customer-defined configurations on one or more target devices.
- Ease of forward migration, with Activation 5 designed to be upwardly compatible with current versions of both MetaSolv ASAP and MetaSolv IP Service Activator, enabling a smooth transition to the advanced functionality available in this new release.
