CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, June 27 /PRNewswire/ --
- Presents Salute to the Troops Celebration at Historic Ford's Theater
In acknowledgement of U.S. troops serving at home and abroad, Bank of America, the Official Bank of Baseball(TM) and one of the world's largest financial institutions, is teaming up with Fox Sports Net (FSN) and Major League Baseball (MLB) on Independence Day to bring the spirit of the holiday -- and America's favorite pastime -- to our military service men and women around the world. Bank of America will also honor our nation's heroes as the presenting sponsor of "Bank of America Presents: An American Celebration at Ford's Theatre -- Salute to the Troops," also airing on July 4 on the ABC Television Network.
On Monday, July 4, the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers, two of the MLB's most tradition-rich franchises, will meet at Jacobs Field at 7:10 p.m. ET in a game being televised without commercial interruption compliments of Bank of America. As a salute to U.S. Armed Forces on the country's greatest day of American celebration, the telecast, "For the Troops on the 4th, Proudly Presented by Bank of America", will be aired locally on FSN Ohio and American Forces Network throughout the world so that troops overseas can celebrate America's favorite pastime.
"We are so proud of the men and women who are dedicating their lives in service to our country. As the Official Bank of Baseball, we are proud to join FSN and Major League Baseball to bring this Fourth of July telecast to our protectors worldwide," said Cathy Bessant, global marketing officer for Bank of America. "I can think of no better source of inspiration and optimism for our troops than America's pastime -- baseball."
Throughout the telecast and during inning breaks, Bank of America and FSN will present as many as 65 messages and greetings to troops serving overseas from their loved ones. Messages are being taped at major league stadiums, cities and military bases across the country, with the hope that all 50 states are represented. Additional messages of gratitude from prominent Americans may also be included.
In national celebration of Independence Day and all of the men and women serving in the military, Bank of America will be the presenting sponsor of "Bank of America Presents: An American Celebration at Ford's Theatre -- Salute to the Troops," a television special airing July 4 at 10 p.m. ET on the ABC Television Network.
"Bank of America is proud to offer our support to historic Ford's Theater and share in the celebration of our armed forces," added Bessant. "Bank of America has a long and deep history of commitment to supporting entertainment and culture, and to honoring the men and women of the U.S. military. The celebration at Ford's Theater is the embodiment of all three."
Hosted by Comedian Jeff Foxworthy ("Blue Collar TV"), the special will host a dazzling array of stars who entertain the nation's leaders and celebrate the armed forces. The annual gala benefiting historic Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC, features a lineup that includes: Actress Geena Davis, star of ABC's new show "Commander-in-Chief"; Hilary Duff, who vaulted to fame on TV and film with "Lizzie McGuire" and whose debut album, "Metamorphosis," climbed the charts; Josh Gracin, the Marine finalist from "American Idol 2" who thrilled country fans with his album; world-renowned mezzo soprano and vocal artist Denyce Graves; actor/singer/songwriter Jesse McCartney ("All My Children," "Summerland"), whose first album, "Beautiful Soul," was recently released; CMA Horizon Award nominee Julie Roberts, whose first album has received glowing reviews; select young members of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy showcasing their extraordinary technique in a piece choreographed by Ms. Allen; and the Official Chorus of the United States Air Force, the Singing Sergeants, performing as well. Bill Conti conducts the American Celebration Orchestra, and the entire assembly will join in a rousing July 4th finale to salute the men and women serving in our armed services.
