"China is the single largest, fastest growing market for Otis," said Otis President Ari Bousbib, "and we are pleased with our participation in China's impressive progress in building infrastructure. With China's rate of urbanization, we continue to have a bullish outlook for long-term demand for elevators and escalators."
The Beijing project, known as the Silvertie Center, consists of two office towers and a Park Hyatt Hotel. The 63-floor Center Tower 2 will be 825 feet (250 meters) high, the tallest building in Beijing, and be equipped with Otis elevators that will move at 7 meters per second, the fastest units in Beijing. Tower 1 and the Park Hyatt Hotel each will be 42 floors and 614 feet (186 meters) high. Otis will supply and install 24 double-deck Skyway(TM) elevator systems, 15 Elevonic(R) 411 gearless passenger units, four gearless freight elevators, a mix of 27 machine-roomless Gen2 elevators and Otis 3200 systems along with 27 escalators.
In Shanghai, Otis will install 100 Gen2 elevators in Zhangjiang High-Tech Park. The Zhangjiang Park project represents Otis' largest single contract for Gen2 elevators. The units will be installed in 50 buildings in the semiconductor park, including the headquarters office and research and development centers.
Otis will also install 70 Gen2 elevators and 74 escalators in 27 stations of Shanghai's Metro Line 6, an elevated subway line under construction in the Pudong district on the eastern side of the Huangpu River. When completed in 2007, Metro Line 6 will extend 19 miles (31 kilometers) and will be the main passenger transport system in Pudong.
Finally, as previously announced, Otis will install 64 elevators and escalators in the Shanghai World Financial Center complex, including Otis super double-deck systems. The complex will house office space, a 170-room six-star hotel and an observation deck. The center will also be located in the Pudong district of Shanghai, which the Chinese government has identified as a high priority area for international banking and commercial interests.
