INIT Inc., the North American subsidiary of init innovation in
traffic systems AG, was selected by the Metropolitan Transportation
Authority of New York to outfit Access-a-Ride vehicles operated by
MTA New York City Transit’s Department of Buses Paratransit Division
with Intelligent Transportation Technology. The Paratransit Division
provides door-to-door transportation for people who can’t ride
accessible buses or subways, and has an average weekday ridership of
14,732.  Initially, 1,329 Access-a-Ride vehicles will be equipped
with COPILOTpc, the latest generation of on-board computers, using
Windows XP embedded technology. The Automatic Vehicle Location and
Monitoring (AVLM) system allows more efficient real-time control and
optimization of the paratransit service using the Global Positioning
Satellite System (GPS) and a wireless data communication network. A
contract exceeding 16 million US dollars is expected to be signed in
the next few weeks. For init, this is yet another major step in the
extension of its North American business.
