CLARIA ASSEMBLES TEAM OF PRIVACY EXPERTS TO HELP DEVELOP NEW BEHAVIOURLINK ADVERTISING NETWORK MODEL
Redwood City, California (ots/PRNewswire)
Claria(SM) (www.claria.com), a pioneer and leader in the behavioural marketing space, today announced that a team of privacy, public policy and consumer protection law experts are working with Claria to help develop and shape its new BehaviourLink(SM) (www.behaviourlink.com) advertising network model. The team includes:
-- Dr. Larry Ponemon, Chairman of the Ponemon Institute, a leading privacy consulting and research firm;
-- Richard Purcell, President of Corporate Privacy Group and former Chief Privacy Officer of Microsoft;
-- Lewis Rose, Chairman of the Advertising and Consumer Protection law practice at Collier Shannon Scott, PLLC, and a former staff attorney at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
"We've assembled a privacy, policy and consumer protection dream team," said D. Reed Freeman, Jr., Chief Privacy Officer of Claria. "It's an honor for me to have the chance to work with such an impressive group of lawyers and policy professionals, whose primary objective is to help us ensure that we develop a product that consumers embrace."
"As behavioural marketing is becoming more mainstream, and as marquee publishers are moving forward to distribute the BehaviourLink platform, we sought the help of the top thought leaders in the privacy area," said Jeff McFadden, president and CEO of Claria. "Their work will be instrumental in helping us continue to evolve by creating a model that is not only good for advertisers and publishers, but one that provides consumers with industry-leading value, privacy protections, and control over their online experience."
Claria is working closely with a number of industry groups focused on privacy initiatives and programs. Claria has recently joined the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), the network advertising industry's trade association. The NAI administers a set of self-regulatory rules for online preference marketing and provides consumers a means of opting out of member companies' online preference marketing services.
"We are delighted to have Claria as a member of the Network Advertising Initiative and we look forward to working with Claria to build compliance with the NAI Principles -- which are widely recognized as strong examples of effective self regulation in the network advertising industry -- into the BehaviourLink product," said Trevor Hughes, Executive Director of the Network Advertising Initiative. "Claria's adherence to these principles means that Claria will be taking the critical steps to protect the privacy of consumer data."
Claria is also a member of the Online Privacy Alliance (OPA), a group of leading online and offline companies that value privacy and that are involved in the development of privacy-related standards.
"We are very pleased to have Claria as a new member of the Online Privacy Alliance," said Christine Varney, OPA legal advisor and partner at Hogan & Hartson in Washington, DC. "Their adherence with the Online Privacy Alliance principles shows their commitment to respecting the privacy of consumers, and we look forward to working with them in the future on new Privacy Alliance initiatives such as those involving behavioural marketing."
