JPMorgan Forms European Advisory Council

- Firm Hires Antonio de Sousa, Wilhelm Simson and Cees van Lede
JPMorgan (NYSE: JPM) announced the formation of its European Advisory Council today by appointing five renowned business and financial experts to the body, including three new hires to the firm. Members of the JPMorgan European Advisory Council will offer clients advice across a range of financial issues, including insight on local market opportunities, and will seek to introduce the firm to new clients. Each member of the council will focus on a dedicated country or geographic region and complement the firm's investment banking teams.
Walter Gubert, Chairman of JPMorgan in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will lead the council and said: "As convergence accelerates across many European markets and sectors, we are investing in our local market presence because we see increased opportunities and threats for clients. The European Advisory Council will bring together a powerful collection of minds to build upon our current position."

The council's five founding members will be Sir Andrew Crockett, President of JPMorgan Chase International and the former General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements; Lord Renwick of Clifton, Vice Chairman of JPMorgan Cazenove, the firm's investment banking joint-venture with Cazenove Group in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the former British Ambassador to the United States and South Africa; and three new hires to the firm:
- Professor Antonio de Sousa, former Chairman of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, former Governor of the Bank of Portugal, former Deputy Minister of Finance and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade for Portugal;
- Professor Wilhelm Simson, retired joint-Chief Executive of E.ON AG, the German energy company; and
- Cees van Lede, Chairman of the Supervisory board of Heineken N.V., Chairman of the board of directors of INSEAD, Non-Executive Board Member of a number of companies including Akzo Nobel N.V., the Dutch healthcare and chemical products manufacturer and Royal Philips Electronics, N.V., the Dutch electronics firm.
JPMorgan expects to make additional appointments to the European Advisory Council in the near future.
