- Conversion to other energy sources and R&D centre among options being evaluated
Vienna, 30 July 2008 - A-TEC Industries AG (ISIN AT00000ATEC9) today announced that it has signed an agreement to purchase the entire site and buildings of the decommissioned Voitsberg lignite fired power station from Austrian Thermal Power GmbH & Co KG (ATP) a 56% subsidiary of the Vienna-listed Verbund Group. The transaction is expected to be completed in a few weeks´ time. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Re-use of the 330 MW Voitsberg III lignite power station, closed down in July 2006, by converting it to other energy sources, is among the options currently being evaluated. A-TEC Industries and its subsidiary Austrian Energy & Environment (Plant Construction Division), which is active in the power plant business, are studying a number of scenarios.
The AE&E Group is looking at the possibility of establishing a research and development centre at Voitsberg, where advanced power engineering services could also be located.
"I am confident that the modernization of the Voitsberg III lignite power plant will be economically viable," said A-TEC Industries CEO Mirko Kovats. "furthermore, this investment will create new jobs in the region."
