Mathys Ltd Bettlach reports further personnel growth in 2006
Bettlach (ots)
Mathys, the Bettlach-based orthopaedics business, recruited a further 28 persons in 2006. At 7.2 %, the increase in turnover was less than expected, but was nonetheless substantially higher than the industry average.
This family-owned business achieved consolidated sales of CHF 74.2 million, which, although equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 7.2 %, was slightly less than expected. The slower growth rate was primarily due to restructuring in the German healthcare system and two national doctors' strikes, prompting a 20 % shortfall in demand for orthopaedic supplies. It proved impossible to compensate for this loss of sales by the end of the year.
28 persons were added to the workforce, 23 of whom filled new jobs at the headquarters in Bettlach. Mathys currently employs 418 people worldwide, including 255 in Switzerland.
Continuous growth over the past three years
Mathys has concentrated exclusively on orthopaedics since 1 November 2003, and sales have climbed from CHF 54.7 million to the present CHF 74.2 million. This is equivalent to an average annual growth rate of 12 %. The workforce has increased by 198 persons over the same period, with 135 of the new jobs located in Bettlach.
Good prospects for further business growth
The new organisational structure under the operative management of Dr. Arne C. Faisst, COO, has proved very effective. This organisational structure, a well-filled product pipeline and the company's existing growth potential provide Mathys with an excellent base from which to achieve a further healthy expansion in sales.
