freenet AG, Hamburg, 22 Dec 2008 - The supervisory board of freenet AG announces that Eckhard Spoerr, CEO of freenet AG, will be leaving freenet AG at his own request, with effect from 23 January 2009. The supervisory board approved his release from his contract in its meeting today. The board regrets and respects Eckhard Spoerr's decision and emphasises that it will continue to give its full support to the strategic course he had set for the business. The integration concept, which has been adopted, will be implemented with full vigour. On behalf of all board members, supervisory board chairman Prof. Dr. Thoma cordially thanks Eckhard Spoerr for his extraordinary service rendered to the company and his enormous personal dedication during his nearly 10 years as CEO.
Eckhard Spoerr will continue to serve the company in a consulting capacity for the foreseeable future.
The supervisory board has named Joachim Preisig to be the speaker of the management board with effect from 23 January 2009. A new appointment will be made to fill the CEO position.
