Government Contracts
Subtitle:
Contract value for implementation reaches AUD 10 million (about EUR 8.5 million)
Wien (euro adhoc) - Vienna/Sydney, August 28, 2012 - Kapsch TrafficCom AG (ISIN
AT000KAPSCH9), listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange in the prime market segment,
informs that its subsidiary Kapsch TrafficCom Australia Pty Ltd has been
contracted by Interlink Roads to supply a new open road tolling system to
support capacity enhancement upgrades to the M5 South West Motorway. The total
contract value for the implementation of the system reaches approximately AUD 10
million (about EUR 8.5 million).
The NSW (New South Wales) Government and Interlink Roads jointly recognised the
need for capacity enhancements to the M5 South West Motorway and developed a
program to widen the existing M5 South West Motorway to provide three lanes in
each direction between Camden Valley Way and King Georges Road. The existing
tolling system will be replaced by a new system that supports an open road
configuration that allows free flowing traffic across the three lanes in each
direction on the mainline motorway section and six additional tolling points on
the nearby on and off ramps to capture feeder traffic. The existing system being
replaced is a dual-lane constrained configuration, where vehicles are
constrained to their lane by physical barriers.
The new tolling system will be contracted directly to Interlink Roads, whereas
the civil works will be separately contracted. A D&C consortium consisting of
Abigroup and SKM has developed the concept design for the civil works.
"An efficient tolling system is so fundamental to a successful tolling operation
that we have contracted this work directly" stated Rex Wright, CEO of Interlink
Roads. "We are confident that we have engaged the right supplier with a proven
track record of delivering accurate and reliable systems both in Australia and
internationally".
"An existing operator of a successful motorway is well informed of what is
required to operate and of what the market has to offer." says Georg Kapsch CEO
of Kapsch TrafficCom Group. "We are delighted to see that our long term
investments, in the accuracy and reliability of our systems in conjunction with
our focus on forging lasting relationships with our customers, are being
recognized through the award of this contract."
The new tolling system will comprise replacement roadside equipment plus a new
back-office system that will incorporates Kapsch's image processing capability
to provide higher levels of accuracy and automation on image based transactions.
The new Tolling System is scheduled to be delivered in October 2013.
