Company Information
Wien (euro adhoc) - The Sempertrans segment of the Semperit Group is expanding
the conveyor belt production at its Belchatów, Poland site. A total of about EUR
40 million will be invested by the year 2015 to expand production capacities in
response to the strong demand for Sempertrans products. This is the largest
organic investment ever made by Semperit.
"Over the last three years we have intensified our sales activities, especially
in South America and Asia, and opened up additional market segments. As a
result, Sempertrans has been able to establish a foothold in completely new
markets", says Thomas Fahnemann, CEO of the Semperit Group, explaining the
reason for the large-scale investment. "It is necessary to expand production
capacities in order to be prepared to continue our expansion in previously
untapped markets and countries. On the basis of our decision in favour of the
Belchatów facility, we are expanding our strong technological position in the
high-quality conveyor belt business, and create additional industrial jobs in
Europe," he adds. Thus the investment is the logical consequence of Semperit's
growth strategy in its Industrial Sector.
Market growth for conveyor belts is being driven by the "megatrend of mining."
The continually rising demand for energy and raw materials requires
corresponding investments. Sempertrans Belchatów is one of the largest plants of
conveyor belts in Europe and is specialised in the manufacturing of heavy-duty
steel cord belts and textile conveyor belts. The fields of application for
Sempertrans products are mining, the steel and cement industries, power plants
and the transport industry.
This year Sempertrans introduced a new energy-saving conveyor belt onto the
market, which saves up to 25 percent of energy required during operation versus
a conventional belt. Sempertrans Belchatów's first large contract order for more
than 30 km of this product results in energy saving corresponding to the average
annual energy consumption of 10,000 households in Western Europe.
