Location Services Research: Detailed Market Trading Report Zurich 2006 - Zurich has the most affordable rents worldwide among other prime locations
Zurich (ots)
Only New York, Hong Kong, Paris, London and Tokyo have retail spaces more expensive than those in Zurich, a city with the world's greatest buying power, highest income per capita as well as the highest standard of living - depending on the ranking used. On Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse, rents reached a worldwide high of over CHF 7150 a year per square meter. Compared to CHF 4800 a year per square meter in the most expensive areas of Munich in Germany, the top rents in these parts are in a league of their own. The economy and living space of the largest Swiss city covers roughly 3 million people living within a one-hour radius.
In the prime location of Bahnhofstrasse, Louis Vuitton has opened its new Swiss flagship store in the Grieder Haus, the first in the world to be equipped with a bijouterie. IWC Schaffhausen opened one of its first stores worldwide, located beside the first Hugo Boss Store in Switzerland. From the Summer of 2007, Apple plans to open its first continental European retail store in Benetton's location on Bahnhostrasse 77, in addition to its locations in Paris and Rome.
Switzerland's largest shopping centre - the Shoppi-Tivoli -, newly designed and with a total area of over 75 000 square meters, will open its doors on November 1st 2007 in Spreitenbach with a new connecting mall between Shoppi and Tivoli. The Tivoli will later be completely refurbished and is expected to re-open with a new sparkle in 2009, with an interesting and incomparable mix of tenants. At the south entrance of the city of Zurich, the shopping and amusement centre Sihlcity is being developed and will open on March 22nd with around 41 000 square meters of retail space and a total area of 100 000 square meters.
The Bahnhofstrasse is the most visited prime location in Switzerland. Zurich Central Station receives daily traffic of over 320 000 travellers. The best locations, visible from the station with their youthful trends and assorted styles, are very consumer orientated and aimed at a mass audience. H&M as well as Marrionaud, are also represented with a total of three stores. Here international chains stocked with accessory, fashion, beauty or other daily demand products, are making their highest profits worldwide - measured by return per square meter. The DOB-chain retailer Bonita will open its Swiss flagship store in April 2007 on 115 square meters located between The Body Shop and Swarovski, and will then have over 20 outlets in Switzerland.
