Subtitle: Almex itcs system makes travelling on buses more attractive
The German company
Rhein-Sieg-Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (RSVG), a public transport
corporation responsible for the district of the same name, selected
Hoeft & Wessel as its supplier of a telematics solution with an
integrated ticketing system. The Almex business division of Hoeft &
Wessel will install an Intermodal Transport Control System (itcs)
consisting of 278 on-board computers with ticket vending functions
and a back-office system. Following the itcs installation, RSVG -
headquartered in the town of Troisdorf near Bonn - will be able to
reduce braking and acceleration processes by enhancing the influence
on traffic signals. This will lead to a substantial acceleration in
bus turnaround times and, therefore, to shorter travelling times.
Simultaneously, the new system will make it possible to organise the
connecting links more efficiently and reliably.
Travelling by bus will become more attractive to RSVG commuters
thanks to the new telematics and ticketing system. Moreover, the
commuter transport corporation will be able to make its operations
more efficient and, therefore, to reduce costs.
As part of the introduction of the itcs, a central control unit will
be set up. The control unit combines such centralised functions as
showing the current operating status, handling radio transmissions
between the central control unit and the vehicles, central
management, monitoring and security of connecting links, passenger
information at central stops as well as statistical evaluations.
The vehicles are equipped with on-board computers of the almex.optima
cl series. In addition to on-board computer functionality, electronic
ticketing in conformity with the German VDV-KA standard will be
integrated into the new devices without any additional infrastructure
having to be created.
With its second order for a telematics solution this year, Almex is
successfully positioning itself as a supplier of itcs and ticketing
systems for public transport operators in Germany.
