6-month report
23.12.2008
In the first half of the current financial year, sales at feratel media technologies increased by eight percent over the same period of the previous year. The Austrian company, which is listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange and has its headquarters in Innsbruck, reports sales totaling TEUR 9,493.3 (compared with TEUR 8,788.3).
For the first half of the business year, feratel announced EBITDA at minus TEUR 432.5 and, after depreciation totaling EUR 1.7 million, EBIT (operating result) at minus TEUR 2,101.2 (compared with minus TEUR 2,048.8). Earnings before taxes (EBT) stood at TEUR minus 2,155.8 after TEUR minus 2,170.1 in the same period of the previous year.
The company's results traditionally have a strong seasonal bias. Sales in the Telecommunications Division, for example, are concentrated in the second half of the financial year, while overheads are distributed equally over the full twelve-month period. And in a number of major markets the period from May to October, i.e. the first half of the business year, accounts for a mere five percent of income from advertising and related expenditures, while the third and fourth quarters generate the remaining 95 percent
feratel is a leading international developer and provider of tourism information systems. In the period under report, the company was again successful in all three divisions. Further additions were made to feratel's Europe-wide network of camera locations (Telecommunications), with new sites in Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Slovakia. Demand remained buoyant for the company's outdoor information facilities (Information and Reservation Systems), with a total of thirty terminals delivered in the first half of the year to Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands and Slovakia. And the positive developments in the Media Division include the fact that, following the August addition of feratel WebTV to the company's product portfolio, two channels were implemented in the second quarter already, for Ski amadé and Sölden. Moreover, the company managed to move onto the Norwegian market with its trail marker system thanks to an order placed by the famous winter resort Hemsedal.
Outlook
Given today's general mood of uncertainty with regard to future economic developments and fears of a global recession, it is an open question whether and to what extent capital spending will be curbed in both the tourism and advertising industries, with consequences for feratel's business activities in the medium term. "At times of crisis especially, the quality of products and services becomes even more significant. With our product portfolio, we at feratel media technologies AG are strongly positioned on a broad base. We are present in a large number of countries and with a wide range of products and services. We must therefore wait and see to what degree the current economic situation will impact capital spending in the relevant industries," says CEO Dr. Markus Schröcksnadel.
