For February 2008, Air Berlin recorded a significant increase in the number of passengers flown. In total, Air Berlin (including LTU, Belair and the airline company Walter) transported 1,874,177 passengers, i.e. 14.8 percent more than in the corresponding month of the previous year (02/2007: 1,632,799). Air Berlin also recorded double-digit growth for the first two months of 2008: The number of passengers welcomed on board increased by 14.4 percent, namely from 3,195,258 to 3,655,733.
For February 2008, the fleet capacity utilization rate improved to 72.5 percent, i.e. an increase of 4.1 percentage points over the corresponding month of the previous year (02/2007: 68.4 percent). The accumulated capacity utilization rate for the months of January and February 2008 increased from 66.8 to 70.8 percent, i.e. an increase of 4 percentage points.
At 4.71 Eurocents for February 2008, the flight revenue per available seat kilometer (ASK) was 8.5 percent higher than in the corresponding month of the previous year (02/2007: 4.35 Eurocents). As Joachim Hunold, Air Berlin´s Chief Executive Officer, commented on the figures: "So far, the new year is off to a good start. We are especially pleased about the earnings increase. This development illustrates that we have optimized yield management and capacity control."
