SAND Analytic Server Version 3.1 in General Release - High-Performance Analytic Platform Enhances Load Performance- Query Access from Industry Standards-Compliant Business Intelligence Tools
Montreal (ots)
SAND Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: SNDT) today announced the general availability of release 3.1 of its high-performance SAND Analytic Server. The SAND Analytic Server is an optimized platform for Business Intelligence (BI) systems integration, and for building and deploying large-scale analytic applications. Release 3.1 augments the proven scalability and query speed of previous versions of the Nucleus data management technology on which it is based, by significantly enhancing the speed of loading and updating data for analysis as well as adding further support for open industry-standard BI tools through more flexible ODBC connectivity. OLE DB and JDBC connectivity are also available.
"Our research suggests that enterprises tend to polarize around the issue of how to improve or maintain the performance of analytic applications as user and data volumes increase," said Doug Laney, Vice President with META Group. "That is, they either forego analytic capabilities or they layer additional standard hardware. An alternate to addressing the problem with the brute-force hardware approach, is to consider alternate data management approaches such as specialized DBMSs designed specifically for analytics."
At the core of the SAND Analytic Server is a column-based, bitmap-indexed, tokenized data structure that efficiently stores granular-level data and makes it available for rapid analysis by business users, without requiring the complex indexes and schemas needed to get analytic performance from traditional Relational Database Management Systems. This optimized design also eliminates the traditional dependence on costly hardware upgrades in order to gain improvements in query and reporting performance.
"After examining many product options, we chose to deploy the SAND Analytic Server as the core of our Customer Insight solution, based on its successful track record with a number of leading Telecommunications and ISP companies," said Fred Türling, Director of Database Marketing, AOL Deutschland. "SAND's high-performance, highly scalable implementation platform effectively supports the complexity of the customer model for our industry. "
"What impressed us the most about SAND Technology was their ability to have a very complex revenue analysis system up and running - and delivering usable business results - in under two months," said Dave Allred, CIO of Toronto-based 407 ETR. "The ability to efficiently load and update data is impressive. This rapid response capability is critical to delivering ROI from large scale data warehousing projects."
About the SAND Analytic Server, Version 3.1
The SAND Analytic Server allows integration of virtually unlimited volumes of data from a variety of sources - data warehouses, operational systems, and legacy or third-party databases -- into a compact, fully indexed analytical repository that can be rapidly deployed and quickly and easily accessed by business users via SQL92-compliant Business Intelligence tools or methods.
Version 3.1 is initially available for servers running Windows NT 4, Windows 2000/2003/XP, Sun Solaris 8, IBM AIX 5, and HP AlphaServer Tru64 5.01 and HP-UX operating systems, with a Linux version available subject to customer demand.
The SAND Analytic Server is highly scalable to accommodate growth, and fast and simple to update to accommodate business change. It boosts the performance of existing Business Intelligence architectures while reducing the need for involvement of specialist data management staff, and fully supports 24x365 operations, making it ideal for business-critical applications.
SAND Analytic Server release 3.1 continues to deliver on the SAND promise of analytics @ the speed of business(tm) by immediately providing tangible business benefits and delivering low total cost of ownership and high overall return on investment.
