Ethertronics introduces multi-band embedded antennas for cellular applications

SAN DIEGO, CA (ots)

Seamless global roaming enabled across U.S., European and Asian
markets
Ethertronics, a developer and manufacturer
of high performance embedded antennas for personal and industrial
wireless devices, today announced the commercial launch of one of the
industry's first tri-band embedded antenna solutions for cellular
applications. Employing Ethertronics' patented technology, the new GW
tri-band embedded antenna is the flagship product in the company's G
Series(TM) and represents the highest performance, efficiency,
isolation and selectivity available for tri-band wireless devices.
The GW antenna operates on the 900 MHz GSM, 1800 MHz DCS and 1900 MHz
PCS frequency bands, delivering a single, multi-use embedded antenna
component that enables global roaming for mobile phones and cellular
data.
Key Advantages
As part of Ethertronics' G Series, the GW embedded antenna offers
OEM product designers flexible and cost-saving advantages:
  • High Performance - the GW model, with its unique isolation properties, outperforms standard PiFAs (Planar Inverted F Antenna) and delivers an 80-100% improvement in the SAR-to-efficiency ratio. This translates into increased signal strength, battery life and talk time, while reducing the RF exposure to the user.
  • Tri-band Capability - the GW antenna allows OEM product designers to integrate a single embedded antenna for use across worldwide cellular frequencies.
  • Flexible Integration - the GW's high isolation properties allow auxiliary antennas, including Bluetooth (MB model) and GPS (MG model), to be placed in close proximity to each other with minimal coupling. Surface mounting options and a volume up to 50% smaller than competitive embedded antennas make integration easy.
"The antenna industry, largely unchanged for the past twenty
years, is experiencing new innovation and vitality," stated Bruce
Gray, Ethertronics' CEO. "With the introduction of our high
performance embedded antennas, which deliver whip-like performance in
an isolated, miniature design, Ethertronics is helping to lead this
change in order to keep pace with the growing needs of today's
wireless consumers who are requiring better, faster, smaller wireless
devices with seamless global roaming capabilities."
In addition to the GW model, Ethertronics also offers other G
Series(TM) embedded antennas for dual-band mobile phone and cellular
data applications, including:
  • GC - embedded antenna operating on the 900 MHz GSM and 1800 MHz DCS frequency bands. The GC antenna is ideally suited for devices requiring international roaming coverage for GSM and DCS enabled mobile phones and devices.
  • GZ - embedded antenna operating on the 800 MHz AMPS and 1900 MHz PCS frequency bands. The GZ antenna provides a low-cost, high performance embedded antenna for analog, digital and dual-mode GSM, CDMA and TDMA mobile phones and devices.
All of Ethertronics' products feature proprietary and patented
antenna "shaping technology," which controls and re-directs the
near-field electromagnetic pattern of the antenna's RF signal. This
"shaping technology" allows for optimal antenna performance by
improving signal strength and voice/data quality inside buildings, in
noisy environments and in fringe network coverage areas. It also
significantly reduces the energy transmitted towards the user's body,
usually representative of a lower SAR measurement for the wireless
device. For product and ordering information, please contact the

About SAR
Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is the unit of measurement for the
amount of radio frequency (RF) absorbed by the body when using a
personal wireless device, such as a cellular phone. All wireless
phones marketed in the United States must meet the safety limit of
1.6 W/kg (watts per kilogram) in 1 gram of tissue, set by the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC). Wireless phones marketed in Europe
must meet the safety limit of 2.0 W/kg in 10 grams of tissue, set by
the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection
(ICNIRP).
About SAR-to-Efficiency Ratio
SAR and efficiency are both key parameters in developing high
performance wireless devices. Calculating SAR independently presents
an incomplete picture, since SAR can be decreased by lowering
efficiency, leading to poor device performance. The SAR-to-efficiency
ratio is a good metric that accounts for both performance and SAR at
the same time. The key is to increase the efficiency (performance)
while reducing the SAR. Ethertronics antennas have a low
SAR-to-efficiency ratio, representing both low SAR and high
performance.
