Company Information/Order from Dubai
Karlsruhe, September 9, 2009. The Emirate of Dubai is working at great pace to set up a modern public transportation system - and continues to opt for innovative technology from Karlsruhe. init innovation in traffic systems AG has now been commissioned to provide some 500 passenger information displays for a Real-Time Passenger Information System (RTPI), which are to be installed by 2010. The RTPI system will be integrated into the telematics system, also supplied by init, to allow passenger information in real time. The TFT display PIDvisio and PIDscreen developed by the Karlsruhe-based telematics specialist will show passengers in real time when the next bus of a specific line is due. Together with the recently announced order from Dubai, the total volume amounts to considerably more than EUR 10M.
The Real-Time Passenger Information System is a key component of the public transportation system which the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) in Dubai is setting up by 2010. In terms of quality and service, it will set the standard worldwide, so that the components are required to meet the most stringent standards. "We are all the more delighted that they (Dubai) have once more opted for technology from init. It shows that our systems have a very high status even at an international level," init CSO Dr. Jürgen Greschner said. "We are proud that our passenger information displays and the pertinent software will now be featured as additional components in this highly ambitious public transportation project that has been noted worldwide." In 2007, init had already provided a telematics system for the setup of a local public transportation service (ÖPNV) in Dubai and now has equipped over 1,300 vehicles with on-board computers and hardware.
The display PIDscreen, currently developed by init, set new quality standards: In addition to passenger information in Arabic, the 37" TFT displays can also show pictures, pictograms, maps or videos in DVD quality. The PIDscreen thus has a much wider range of visualization options than any conventional LED display. The displays are a modern communication platform between the RTA Dubai and its customers. The communication between the control center and the passenger information displays is handled in real time via GPRS.
Project with significant signal effect
"We believe that the Arab region will develop quite significantly over the coming years in terms of local public transportation," said Eyad Tayeb, Managing Director of Init innovation in traffic systems FZE, the subsidiary of init in Dubai. "The project with RTA Dubai has a key signal effect for the entire region. We can see a considerable increase in demand for our technology here." By 2011, the Emirate of Dubai alone will invest over five billion euros in the setup of a local public transportation system that will include buses, water taxis and a metro.
The work on the Real-Time Passenger Information System has already begun and is due to be finished by next year. init is involved in this project as an integration and installation partner of the general contractor, Bond Communications Group, and will also handle the maintenance of the displays.
