Wind turbine manufacturer Nordex has now finally entered the growing Polish market thanks to a major project. Operating company Megawatt Baltika has awarded it a contract for the "Tychowo" wind farm close to the Baltic coast in Poland. Under the terms of the contract, Nordex will be supplying 20 N90/2500 LS turbines with a total nominal output of 50 megawatts (MW) for a total price of approx. EUR 51 million. In addition, Nordex will be servicing the system for Megawatt Baltika for a period of nine years.
Measurements have revealed mean wind speeds of 6.9 m/s at this location. Accordingly, the low-speed version of the N90/2500 turbine, which is specially designed for weak-wind conditions, on a 100 metre tower is the ideal choice for this site.
"This marks one of four wind farms which Nordex is building in Poland this year - we have just completed the first one, with a further two to be built as of the middle of the year. As a result, the Polish market is living up to our expectations. Looking forward into the medium term, we plan to install an annual capacity of 100 MW in this market, for example in the form of 40 N90 or N100 turbines", says Carsten Pedersen, COO Sales and Marketing at Nordex AG. To achieve this, the company will be building up structures of its own in Poland in the near future.
