Hamburg/Brussels, 28 February 2008. REpower Systems AG, the third largest German manufacturer of wind turbines (WKN 617703), and Electrabel (SUEZ Group) have signed an agreement under which Electrabel promises to order a maximum of 250 REpower wind energy turbines with a total capacity of up to 500 megawatts (MW). The turbines are of the REpower MM82 and MM92 class with 2 megawatts each and hub heights of 80 and 100 meters and will be delivered in the period from 2009 to 2011 for the construction of wind farms in Europe.
This agreement shows the ambition of Electrabel and the SUEZ Group to develop their renewable energy generation capacity. The company has set itself the goal of having 18 per cent of its capacity come from renewable sources by 2009. To achieve this, it is developing a balanced European portfolio of renewable energy sources based on multiple technologies (hydropower, biomass, photovoltaic energy and wind power). So far, Electrabel already has more than 5,500 megawatts (MW) of capacity generated from renewable sources, of which 655 MW comes from wind farms in Belgium, France, Portugal, the Netherlands and Italy.
The agreement reflects REpower´s engagement in its core markets like France and Belgium as well as entering promising eastern European markets such as Poland.
Per Hornung Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems AG, said: "We are delighted about this major order from our new client. It shows Electrabel´s high confidence in our company and its reliable technology and enables us to grow further in significant European markets."
